Cleaning brass engines
Posted by jcopilot on Monday, March 31, 2008 10:42 PM
I have a couple of badly tarnished brass engines. Had a house fire and there was a lot of smoke and soot and the engines look really bad. What is safe to use on them?
Thanks,
jcopilot

Doesn't somebody have an idea of what I can use?

Don't mean to be snide or flippant, but you're halway to a perfectly good paint job?  What's not to like? Clown [:o)]

Try warm sudsy ammonia or Tri-sodium Phosphate (Walmart, other hardware stores) and a plastic bristly brush.  Maybe a toothbrush, a soft one, would be better around any details.
