Still hectic with non-model-railrad stuff.

As I said in my last post........... Brother in law was about to have heart transplant.... It was yesterday... from what I've learned, it was OK.

We're not pleased with the judge in Cincinnati area. Looks like he's going to be lenient on that intruder.

Negative Ghost Rider. It simply means there will be one more weather beaten water tower on the layout.

It is raining again here, pouring actually. I had to cover the step that I repaired yesterday, the top coat cement might get pitted by heavy raindrops and forecasted small hail. Thundering now, but not too badly yet, the power meter is fluctuating around 115V down from 120V ( many A/C units on in the neighborhood I suspect ). We finished July with 8.1" of rain almost 3 times the month avaerage, and 3rd place for all time July rainfall. No wonder everything looks like a tropical rainforest here.

ED/JP: Manny had a change of heart when he heard he was going to be actually traded to the LA Dodgers. He said he would behave himself for the rest of the season. The Sox said" sorry, you burned your bridges" in not so many words. That's what he gets for listening to his agent also. At 36, how many more years did he think he could produce as a super hitter? Who in theri right mind would give him $100M contract for FOUR years guaranteed, at age 36, especially the way he belly-aches.

Picked up another 80 couplers and some yellow paint yesterday.  Today I've been installing ground throws in the yard.

Garry, the next house he walks into may be his last, so let's hope this was his first time and never tries it again. Keep us up to date.

Actually had some penny-size hail here a bit ago. Kicking back up as I type. Lots of lightning, tons of rain...YEE HAW!

It's been a challenging day here with the FIL. I'm not a nurse, nor do I have any desire to ever be one. No wonder they get paid well. Nuff said!

I agree. And have debated askiing about volunteering to move the Diner so Bergie doesn;t have ta get dirty. I got a trackmobile out back hooked to my private car if we wanna do it now. But can we get the regular work schedule for the girls up on page 1

At least Zoe and Chloe are making more than $6.55 and hour, which is what our governor decreed for state employees until the guys in the Capitol building here in Sacramento get off their expensive duffs and get us a budget for the next year.  "River City" (Sacramento) is NOT a happy town, right now.  But then, neither is most of the state. 

Okay, end of rant. 

The two big fires here in the northern part of the state are 'under control', which is a lot less than 'contained'.  Still have no idea if UP is running up the Feather River Canyon from the Belden fire, and STILL have no information if the Sugar Pine tourist railroad was wiped out by the Telegraph fire in Yosemite.  But that one photograph I keep seeing of fire-twisted rails has me wondering, since that's the ONLY railroad in the Yosemite area.

It was supposed to hit 88 here today, went out and it was 102.  Jeff, I feel for you--at least out here in SunnyCal it's a DRY heat.  You've also got to put up with the humidity.  You've got my sympathies, buddy. 

Had a couple of days with Lowell not doing too well--thought I was going to have to make the Big Decision--then this morning he woke me up at 4AM, hungrier than a horse.  Ate two jars of Gerbers, then another half jar after I got him back from his morning visit to the Vet.  The Vet assured me that he'll have good days and bad days and as long as he has an appetite, to just watch and wait.  Today he seems to be having a good one.  We just have to wait and see, I guess.

I just came back from a fire call. It was out in the woods on a deer lease and only the very lightest trucks could get to it. That meant the tankers (water carriers) had to stay out on the main road and refill the two brush trucks when they came back to reload on water.

This has not been a good day on the MESS... Did a lot of cleaning, did a lot of sweating as it's real muggy and did a lot of pondering (What was I thinking getting a 2-10-4 for the MESS) Trying to get 30" curves in a restricted space. It's just not working. I'll have another stab at it tomorrow but there will be a lot of cutting I fear by the time this is all over.

Yes we should start a new diner as the "Bar" at the Classic Trains was shut down last week without warning and they had to get a new joint started.

Well I see you all tomorrow as it will be more rain.

Evening Gang: It's still HOT here. We had 104f today and 105f yesterday. They are predicting 100f + for the next 7 days at least with no rain in sight. There is a storm down in the Gulf near Lousiana that has a slight chance of bringing us some relief. This feels worse then 1980 when we had something like 60 days of 100+. Of course I was 28 years younger then. Ya think that has anything to do with it? The last few days I've been kind of dogging it and watching a lot of TV. We got Direct TV a while back and I've been doing my best to wear it out. Bone Yard had a bit on abandoned mines that I really enjoyed. There is a foundry, steelmill, machine shop outfit that someone with a great deal of forsight bought and rehabed. He is now making all sorts of parts for the minning industry in the area. They showed some shots of an old steam railroad crane that set me to slobering.

CN I'm pulling for your father in law. Give him my best.

***Paul, you're probably right. My wife gets paid well, but she's been doing it most of her life so is on the upper tier of the pay scale. Still probably underpaid for what she has to deal with.

Does anyone know if the new "Bachmann (N) DD40AX Centennial Loco w/DCC" is all new inside, or is it the same old innards with DCC added???

Wife might be bringing home the MIL tonight from the hospital. Seems she is all better now. We shall see. Going to try catching a nap now, as I will need to get up at 3:30am to help her up the ramp.

Well, the last couple have gone to a little over 100 pages.  This one is about double that, and so far, the powers that be have remained silent.  It might be good to keep it that way, ya know?
