Here's an article MR did back in 05 that they have as a free download in their current newsletter. It's an excellent article and answers many newbie and not so newbie questions.
Just thought I'd pass it along for those who don't subscribe to the newsletter.

Yep!Big Smile [:D] That rail gap rule of thumb is a good one. That article answers a lot of the repetitive questions that come up here.

I love the MR newsletter emails! Lots of free pdf's to download that are full of great tips.
