Send them an e-mail and ask.  They've been great shipping stuff to me in Canada, and have replied to e-mails I've sent them.  Postage is likely to be fairly high, their minimum to Canada is US$25.00, so I usually combine orders with friends to make it worthwhile.

Trainworld's print advertisement in Model Railroader has the following information concerning shipping policies:

Minimum order $25.00 plus shipping
UPS Shipping and Handling, minimum $8.95
Parcel Post, Canada and Overseas, minimum $24.95
For larger orders, estimate additional shipping

So it appears that they can ship to anywhere in the world, but the shipping and handing is likely to cost more than the item you're ordering.  And, unfortunately, that's likely to be true for any other mail order dealer that ships to overseas addresses.

Trainworld's prices are sometimes so good, though, that the shipping is worth it.

Another option is M.B. Klein, at www.modeltrainstuff.com.  They also have "blowout" prices on discontinued items, like Trainworld does.

I've dealt with both of these companies, and they are great.  Trainworld in particular ships their orders out really fast.  Twice I've ordered on Wednesday night about dinner time and found my trains on the doorstop when I came home from work the next day.  Trainworld is in New York, and I live outside of Boston, and I only paid for standard shipping.

I find they're both good discount websites. I do my DCC/Sound shopping here: www.wholesaletrains.com where Bachmann DCC/Sound engines are 1/2 off! And for the guy that lives in Boston, this place is in Horseheads, New York!

It's a shame in this modern world that their is no reliable way of shipping to Austrailia and back but from what I have gathered from train people and others that it is not reliable, too many lost packages or very delayed because of customs and of course both sides blame the other.

Only buy from wholesale if the items are marked as next day shipping!

Hi Alan,

Trainworld are good people to deal with and shipping to Oz is no problem for them. I would prefer to support my LHS but the difference in pricing, even after significant postage/freight costs is astronomical. So, I continue to buy mail order from among others, Trainworld. I am rolling out cork underlay right now which I purchased from Trainworld as I did not like what was on offer locally, and I look at the shipping carton containing 6 packs of underlay, and it was $US48 postage, but that worked out very comparable price to LHS price for an inferior product. It sure works out well on locos as well...I've saved heaps and  been able to purchase exactly what I wanted. They even delivered to a NY hotel for my sister in law who was visiting the city to collect when she checked in, and that sure saved me on postage  ! (I didn't offer to help with her airfare thoughWhistling [:-^])

Geoff I wish I was better trained.

The biggest problem with Trainworld in that their website looks like a relic from the 90's. Seriously, those guys would make lot more if they had a modern up to date website with good online shopping abilities.

Hi Alan,

I live in rural NSW, so all my purchases are ordered over the internet, my closest LHS is about 3 to 4 hours away. As Lyctus said, there is no way I will buy US locos and rolling stock out here as it's just way over the top, all my stuff comes from the US and I've had no problems, bar 1 ebay seller that I experienced long delays on shipping with.

Ebay is great as long as you go with really well rated sellers, just make sure to check their feedback and get quotes on the shipping and make sure to ask for tracking and insurance. USPS Priority Mail is the go, never had a problem with them and usually you have the item in around 2 to 3 weeks. Shipping charges can make a good buy expensive real fast though so watch out for that. I tend not to worry about it too much though, as I have to pay it one way or another!

M.B. Klien are great to deal with, as someone else pointed out, as are Factory Direct Trains, their shipping is a little more expensive than other stores as they use UPS, but the flip side of that is first rate tracking that you can view on their website, you know exactly where your trains are at any given time from the moment you order till it hits your doorstep. Also you will have whatever you order inside 5 working days! Their customer service is great also, any problems, email them and they get it sorted fast.

Another good place to buy is Walthers, especially their sale items and they have the cheapest shipping, downside is about 6 weeks shipping time.Try to order a few things at the one time to cut down on shipping costs and think about what your ordering as far as package size, if you buy say a Cornerstone kit, they are usually fairly large so you have a fair bit of room left over in an oversize shipping box. You might as well fill it if you can !

Hope this helps you out.

Cheers,

Warren
