I have been attempting to install Kadee couplers on my Bauchmann Silver Series rolling stock and found the little pin that the coupler goes on is to big around for the Kadee to go on. On a few of these I have trimmed it down with a hobby knife and seems to work OK. What I would like to know is there an easier way? Trimming the post down is somewhat time consuming and I am concerned that it might weeken it to the point that it will break. On one of my open hoppers the coupler pocket was destroyed and I had to install the entire Kadee coupler and everything. It seems to be working for now.
Any good ideas on making the Kadee's fit these cars that is any simpler or do I have to do it the hard way? Thanks. Mike
I understand your words but I cannot form sufficient imagery to proceed.
Is it possible for you to take a digital photo of your problem coupler and upload? Then we might see what it needs.
I understand your problem. I had a similar problem with Bach Spec Heavyweights.
What the problem is that the center screw hole/post is too wide to slide the copper spring box over it.
There are two solutions:
1) Invert the coupler spring box so it is upside down sitting between the post and the bottom plate
2) Get Kadee Whisker Couplers. (Which also work great on Athearn hopper cars because the box is so narrow!)

I advocate the number 148 whiskers.
The old number 5 is DEAD long LIVE the whisker! Just make sure the side pins are in before covering the coupler box.
