Hi,

What is the detail level on their Bulk Freighter Waterline Plastic  (1/87 scale)
Model Kit? The same question about the Great Lakes Freighter  (1/87 scale Resin Kit)

Is their any need to get some super detailing kit and if so where and what should I look for?

If you have built any of these how good are they as models?

Magnus

Lillen-I have seen two models by this company, they both were impressive, but they were in museums and I can't say if they had added detail kits or not.

The level of detail was very good, but again, what may have been added I cannot say.

   Hope this helps a bit.

It sure do help, thank you.

Did you notice any difference in between the two? Was the resin one more detailed?

Do anyone know where you can order details for ships? Do Walthers carry any?

Hej,

Thanks for the link. But what I was looking for was where to buy extra details. I was going to order the vessels from here: http://bearcomarine.com/plastic.htm

Or do anyone know anywhere else where they might be cheaper and extra parts available as well?

Magnus

Lillen- A few years ago, I received a catalog from a company in Florida called ModelExpo or ModelersExpo, I really can't remember, but the catalog had quite a selection of ship fittings in it. I don't even know if they are still around, you might try a search.

A bit closer to home, I have been on websites in England that had lots of ship fittings. You might just try "Model ship supplies " in a search field and see what you turn up. Alot of this stuff is for sailing ships, but there were some modern items also.

   Good luck in your search.

Wow, those are some fine looking models.  I am especially impressed with the resin tramp steamer and tugboat.  Although they seem rather pricey, when compared to the cost of some of the resin 1/350 scale warship models that are out there, they are really quite reasonable.
If you ain't having fun, you're not doing it right and if you are having fun, don't let anyone tell you you're doing it wrong.

Thanks for the advice. I will look fo a U.K supplier, I'm so use to ordering from the U.S that I forgot about even looking. I will look for the Florida dealer too.

The name of the company is Model Expo, here's the link: http://www.modelexpo-online.com/cgi-bin/sgsh0101.exe?SKW=TWMF@&FNM=00&UID=2005110317301636

I seem to remember an ad in MR in the last couple of months for a company specializing in H0 boats and parts, I'll take a look and post back.

Hi: The best Great Lakes Freighter I've seen is by Sylvan Scale Models. It is resin and really good. The main problem I have with the Bearco model is the hull. It's vacuformed and lacks detail. Sylvan has a web site. Try Googleing Sylvan Scale Models. Good luck and If I can be of any help drop me a line.
