changing to add another distric.

Good morning, Did you set your clocks back?  On my layout I have a line of track that comes from a turnout and connects to another turnout about 5' down the tracks going to the other end of the layout, I would like to know if I can simply cut the tracks at each end of the track in question with a thin blade in my Dremmel and add another 3 position switch and use this section for another distric? Do I need the plastic rail insulators, My track is already in place and ballasted and now runs great if the Gremlins are not present. By doing this I can run 2 trains at the same time and not run over another moving train. This is in DC, you will need to know that. Am I making any sence? I can post a pic if I need to.          Mike

No need for plastic joiners.  To keep the sections from shorting together glue a piece of styrene (with CA) in the gap, and cut it down to the shape of the rails with a hobby knife.

Yes, you can just cut it; but I would take Vail and Southwestern RR's advice, as humidity may cause the roadbed to expand, creating a hard-to-find short circut. My 2 cents [2c]
