Finished washing my car and went in to take some pictures of what I did last night.

At the Austin Model Jamboree I purchased two of these sage brush armatures.  Wanted to have a go at decorating one. I elected not add any other fine foam to them at this point. I can tell from the photo the left one needs a bit more material in the top.

Also, finished ballasting the yard last night - first cut of cars arriving.

I did little actual work on the layout this weekend. However, seismographs recorded an astonishing earthquake measuring 14.7 on the Richter Scale that destroyed said layout...

However, there is light at the end of the tunnel... I am going to build a modular layout this time. So when I find out that I have done something that can't easily be fixed, only a fraction of the layout will be lost. So, after I had fun destroying- I mean I sorrowfully, and very slowly dismantled my layout I actually did some things right this time. I am finishing the room to make it more suitable for a layout. I intalled lighting:

I am going to patch and paint the walls (I would like a sky blue, but that won't fly too well...) and fully clean the carpet (and uselessly promise myself to put down drop cloths next time).

Anyways, more cleaning to do.

Here is my locomotive roster so far, along with my plans for them. My future layout will be "Pan Am-Under New Management" (i.e. yours truely).  I figure, if a bunch of robber barons who don't give a flying F-unit about trains or sevice can run a railroad, than so can I. I guess you could call it a love-hate relationship or morbid fascination with the prototype because, despite its (considerable) faults, its the railroad that got me into model railroading.This is all in HO scale.

Atlas SD26, the pride of the fleet. Seriously, Atlas did an outstanding job with it. Plans: Ditch lights and weathering.

Atlas C424 Phase II. Plans: Weathering, brake chain, and some other details.

Walthers GP9M. Plans: Will donate its cab and nose to an Atlas GP7 or backdated P2K GP9 to make a GP7P.

My infamous E-R Models RF-16 "superdetailing project." Looks perfect for a deadline scene, doesn't it? Plans: Keep this shell as a practice shell, replace it with a Bachmann shell on the chassis.

The sister unit. Plans: Not sure. I might try to detail it, or I might sell it since it doesn't quite fit into my grand scheme to make a Pan Am layout. 

Not shown:

"Pre-owned" Genesis UP SD70M. Plans: Clean it up then dirty it up, get the Details West detail kit, and use it for run-through power. If I get a picture, I'l post it in an edit.

Athearn RTR SD45 HH undecorated. Plans: Hasn't arrived yet. Once it does, it will become ST #681 

Athearn GP40-2 shell undecorated. Plans: Needs a chassis, then will become GP40-2LW MEC #505

IHC 2-6-0 or 2-8-0 steamer, C&EI. Plans: Sell it once I find it. It's lost in my attic. 

I think at this point, since I don't have a permanent layout, that I will stop here with stockpiling locomotives and get started on my various plans for them. I already sold an Atlas P&W B40-8, a Spectrum GP30, and a couple of pieces of rolling stock that doesn't fit my era. I have about 20 pieces of rolling stock and I only plan to buy a couple more pieces until I can get a permanent layout. Hopefully, I'll be able to make enough space to get a permanent layout going. It's not easy when you're living in a small house with a big family!

Bruce,  What area are you modeling?  I looks like parts of California.  Your trees are great.

Thanks!  I tried to model a nonspecific mid-Atlantic region, but if it looks like California, fine.    This layout was more of an experiment of various scenery processes.  Some things worked, some sort of worked, while others didn't.  It's all in preparation for my future dream layout... someday... probably many years from now.

This photo shows the ore boat docked at the ore loader,(before the ore chutes were installed). Next to it is the front of the four track railroad ferry, in one of two harbors on my HO layout  Other than E-BAY, does anyone know where one can get a kit for an HO steel mill?
