Train Show - Oct. 27 & 28 in Hingham, MA
Posted by Paul3 on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 11:45 PM

Folks,
The South Shore Model Railway Club's 2-day Fall Train Show and Open House is being held in Hingham, MA this weekend, the 27th and 28th.  The hours are from 9 to 4 both days, with admission $4 for adults, $2 for seniors and children ages 6 to 12 (w/ adult), under 6 are free.

www.ssmrc.org

The club, est. 1938, is located across the street from the new, soon-to-be-opened West Hingham MBTA commuter rail station in Bare Cove Park (which is a former US Navy Ammunition Depot).  Building #51, our clubhouse, is a 10,000 sq. ft. structure that was an empty shell 15 years ago.  We brought in electical service, cut holes in the 12" thick floor for two bathrooms, patched the 30' hole in the roof, and made it one of the finest club buildings in the USA (according to John Engstrom of Athearn when he came to visit).  This pic is of our Middleton Yard:

We have built about 1/3rd of our eventual layout in HO of our 6300 sq. ft. layout room.  In the remainder of the room, we have around 40 dealer tables.  This pic is from our March '07 show:

These shows are our major fund raisers for our club.  If you're in the area, please drop by and see us.  We will have snacks and sodas, T-shirts and hats, plus up to 10 operating trains on the layout (I hope! Smile [:)]).  Memberships are also available (there's always room for one more...).

I'm psyched for this one.  I've seen a lot of pictures from this club, and I'm really interested in seeing it in person.  I'll probably go Sunday, since that looks like the nicer of the two days weatherwise.  I think the Patriots will get by without me.  (When I came out of the North Shore club open house last Sunday, they were up 42-7.  Maybe I should go to train events more often, for their sake.)

This is bogp40's club too, right?  It would be fun to meet you guys in person.  Any other forum members in the club?

MisterBeasley,
Yep, the SSMRC is also bogp40's (Bob) club.  He's our scenery chairman, and he said he'll be there for the show running his Chessie coal drag or his B&O passenger F's.  I''ve known Bob for over 15 years at the club, and he's a heckuva modeler (we just wish he'd be there more often).

As far as other MR Forumites in our club...well, there's a couple.  MRAMTRAK is (he was being funny and/or sarcastic in the above post), plus Bob and I.  There's also a couple that don't post, but read it.

Well, I've got my Bedford and Billerica Railroad shirt on, and I'm about to head down to Hingham for the show.  See you there!

Show's over now, but it was definitely worth the trip.  Thank you one and all.

I did get to talk to Bob for a while, but Paul was upstairs in the Dispatcher's Booth.  You guys have a great space to work in, and it's fun to see the various stages, from the handlaid track on otherwise bare plywood all the way to finished scenes.

Thanks again for a great show.

Glad you could make it. Was a pleasure to finally meet. Wish I could have talked more, but most of my wrecks are from talking while running trains. Just ask most operators that run in front of me.....oooops!
