beginner looking for information
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 1:42 PM

Hi all,

This post was originally posted on
toy train operating and collecting forum, but guys there suggest me to also post it here.

I would sincerely appreciate if you guys can help me with the following toy train:

my wife is a fan of the movie Heintje - Ein Herz geht auf Reisen (see the link at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0064410/ for more information). In particular she loves the train set in it: the train that the kid Heintje and his granddaddy played. I cherish her and wish I can buy her that train as a Christmas gift.

Unfortunately I have no idea what train the movie actually uses, nor do I have a picture. But considering the impact of German-made trains, I would GUESS it must be a popular brand name. Can anyone offer any clue about what train it is?

The apparent difficulty is that the film was produced more than 30 years ago and you have to be old enough to see and cherish it...and the train:) In any event, I hope fans in this forum can surprise me:D

If you can come up with a picture of the train, I'm sure someone here can identify it for you. If it is a German made train, good chances it's a set from MÄRKLIN ....chuck

Being that the movie was released in 1969, obtaining an operating set may be difficult. As said above, if you could get a picture of the train in question, someone here may be able to help.

I think it's LGB too.

Nerf, welcome to the forum, I agree with the guys that the trains you're looking for is LGB which is already a german firm. Check with the garden scale boys to be sure. You may not be able to buy that as a set but you could surely collect individual models to make your set.

Yes it's definitely LGB, and I did find several of the rolling stock on ebay without looking a long time:

#260167996806

#220158446269

#150169594448

#110177855708

#130160494458 (I believe this is the Diesel engine being red in the movie)

Try ebay. LGB is an own search category. There you will also find lots of track pieces. LGB is a high quality product, but don't expect that much prototypical appearence.

Agreed it is LGB which stands for Lehman Gross Bahn.  It is a German company with products available world wide.  They have a web site also I believe.

I agree with what others have written -- it looks like LGB G-scale trains.  They are still made.  Ernst Paul Lehmann and the LGB product line was recently sold to Marklin.

You should try to find a copy of Garden Railways Magzine, also published by Kalmbach, and look through the advertisements for LGB products.  The whole set is probably not available, but individual items could be bought to make up a set.

Thank you so much for all the valuable information:  cwclark, jeffrey-wimberly, john1947 , TrainManTy, reklein, VAPEURCHAPELON, ndbprr, cacole. Words cannot describe my gratitude, but I hope you feel it warm and real.

Guess what I am gonna do next:

1. find a magazine to have some ABC on toy trains

2. find LGB website and see how it offers

3. browse ebay

I am happy that I find this site first. And I will keep you posted through Christmas. :D
