Hi everybody ! I'd like to build a Big Boy in G-Scale. Are there any kits on the market or can anyone give me some hints where I could find usable drawings for this project ? Maybe someone already built a G-Scale Big Boy.
Thanks for any informations !

You've got a scale problem here. "G" scale usually refers to 1/22.5 which is LGB. This represents meter gauge gauge trains operating on No. 1 gauge track. No. 1 gauge is 1/32, so since the "Big Boy" is standard gauge, if you want to operate it on the track used by LGB and others, it should be built to 1/32 scale. I believe a "Big Boy" has been available in No. 1 gauge, but at the price of a luxury automobile! Check the model railroad articles search engine on this website for plans.

Sandro,
If you can´t afford the Big Boy Gregg talks about why don´t you find some pictures of it and scratchbuild it. You could by individual parts. For the frame you could possibly use two 4-8-0 and cut of one cab and put them together and then lengthen the back for the back wheels. That is how I am building my Gargantua design. It is a 4-10-10-4. I have two decapods put together,it´s in HO. Hope you find a solution to your question.

Sandro,
I just looked under my thread and saw your reply. I have no one source for my prototypes. I used various pictures from Model Railroader and a web site that is in my thread I don´t remember it though. If you have any other questions or need advice please e-mail me at mader_15@yahoo.com.

I saw a 1:32 scale Big Boy at Caboose Hobbies in Denver about a month and a half ago. If I remember correctly, it had a "SOLD" tag on it. It was very expensive, but it sure was beautiful. Maybe you could visit them online or call them and get some information on that locomotive. Good Luck!

Thanks everybody for your help. I wish I could see the model in the mentioned Denver shop. Unfortunately it would mean a 13 hours flight since I'm living in Switzerland/Europe. We just have one or two really good hobby shops selling models of North American railroads. So it would be rather difficult to get any plans or models for building a Big Boy. Anyway, I'll check the web for further informations.
