gotta be the 2-10-4 jay !! only 200 hp. off the Q-2 peak on the altoona test plant, and all kinds of cheaper to operate in the field. there were some technical problems with these locos when built, because of c&o blueprint errors, but once ironed out, the texans ruled the road...wherever they could fit. the tees have also come in for some serious reevaluation recently. turns out that their early demise was due largely to events beyond prr.s control, as many of their specialty parts went out of production in the early 50s.....parts that were not made at altoona, and were covered by patent rights. tee performance wasn't an issue with experienced enginemen in charge.
