Rich: I know of your frustration and by all means you can triple that on my end. I should have probably kept the dialect between Randy and myself yet with so many others attempting to help me on this, I felt an obligation to keep the post going in order to avoid pulling the plug on a "who dunnit" movie without finding out the culprit and sharing it with others.
If I can trouble you guys for one last request. Any suggestions on where to place the decoder under the hood? I've tried various different spots but the hood won't close since the shell needs to fit perfectly over the coupler knuckles. Best Regards, Steve

Great news about the lighting fix. Stuffing lots of wire and electronics under the hood is another reason Randy, Myself and others rip out all the crud the loco builder put in. More room the better and cleaner the install. Try to keep wires as short as possible and tie off the excess with thread or Kapton tape. If there is metal weights that the wires must pass next to I will file a groove or channel to nestle the wire into so the shell will not pinch it. Sometimes you have to get creative in order to cram all the stuff in neatly. On some locos the headlights are attached to the shell. I bought a spool of elastic thread and have the wires spring loaded so they will retract into the shell and not get caught in the running gear. Hardwired decoders are more reliable then the plug and pray.
Like the show Holmes on Holmes. Rip it out and do it right. And if your going to do it, Do it right the first time.
To be honest this lighting issue should be on a separate thread. As it turned out the NCE system is fine. The title and 7 pages long says differently. Someone perusing the forum could get the wrong idea about NCE products if they look at the title only.

Too late to do this on your current installs, but sometimes it makes sense to install an N gauge decoder where the fit is otherwise too tight.

This is a little but all homeowners should watch Holmes on Homes on HGTV. This guy puts Bob Vila to shame. Mike Holmes is the greatest thing since sliced bread when it comes to fixing other contractor's disasters. Tune in and give this guy on look on Sunday evenings.
