DT602D problem
Posted by hjQi on Friday, January 14, 2022 7:38 PM

Happy New Year!

I have been using Digitrax DT602D throttle on my layout for about one and half years. Recently, I found that the left throttle was doing weird things. As I increase the speed, the actual speed reading jumps randomly 1%, 3%, 10%, 2%. My loco also responds to these random jumps. So if I try to increase the speed, my loco goes fast, slow, fast, .... The speed can barely goes to more than 25%.  This random jump starts almost immediately, but I can return the speed to zero .  The right throttle works well and has no problem.

Did anyone have this kind of problem? Does this mean I need to send my DT602D  to Digitrax for a fix?

Do you have the particular locomotive selected on another throttle? Wierd things can happen when the same address is on two different throttles.

Alternately, do you have the latest firmware installed on your DT602? Newer firmware can fix some glitches on these throttles.

Good Luck, Ed

Thanks, Ed. I tried the same loco on both throttles (by stealing back and forth). The right one has no problem but the left one kept to have the same problem... I will try firmware update...

I will try firmware update...

Read the instructions carefully. Mine seemed to go OK but in one or two cases I had to restart the loading process. Once was through the DCS 240 and other times through a PR3.

Hi Ed, I was able to update the firmware. I followed the instruction from the youtube you suggested and downloaded soundloader from Diitrax. I don't have PR4 so I used my DCS 52 as my USB interface. It worked very well. I was quite lucky. The firmware update was pretty smooth and I did it in one try. However, the firmware update did not fix the problem so I may have to contact Digitrax next week. But thanks for your help. I guess the first thing Digitrax let me to do will be firmware update. At least this saves me. Many thanks!

That's too bad about having what appears to be a bad encoder. I have one DT 602 D and two UT 602 Ds and they seem to be working fine. Glad the updated firmware went OK.

Hope Digitrax can help you.

Regards, Ed

A friend of mine has  DT 602D. The left throttle increases speed gradually to 100% on its own.

Before you contact Digitrax you might want to bring your questions up with the Digitrax-users [groups.io] forum and see if anyone there has any input. There have been some issues and "workarounds" with the 600 series of throttles.

Good Luck, Ed

I contacted Digitrax tech support. They asked me to use Ballstic Tracking (throttle utilit ID 1). My throttle was actually using Ballistic Tracking but I was curious to see what would happen if I turned that off. It was interesting. Once I turned off the Ballitic Tracking, I didn't have random jump problem but the speed responded really slowly to throttle turns. So I told Digitrax support and they asked him to send it back for repair...

Update.

Sent my DT602D for repair on Jan. 20 and got it back yesterday. So it took a little bit more than one month. Since my DT602D is more than one year old, Digitrax charged me $25, which is not too bad. Thank you all for the help!
