BLI AC6000 Diesel
Posted by nickyb on Sunday, August 18, 2013 7:35 PM

BLI AC6000 Paragon 2 series Diesel shorts when I power up system. With the track powered up I remove the engine from track system is fine. Then put engine back on track after removing it engine works. It seems to short only when powering up. Otherwise everything else seems to work fine. If I reset decoder problem still exist. Has anyone else had a similar problem and what did you do to fix.

What DCC system do you have?   The Paragon2 could be overloading your booster's output.

One loco should NEVER cause that problem, despite poor circuit design with huge inrush currents.

Yes, poor circuit design - there's no reason there has to be such a current inrush just because there are keep alive capcitors. But I'll leave that for another thread.

Now, if the 5 amp booster is being powered by a spare power pack rated at way less than 5 amps - THAT could be a problem.

System.  Digitrax, Zephyr as command station with DB100 booster. I've been using this system for 4 years and has worked fine without problems. I have operated 6 Loco's at one time. The Loco in question has worked fine up until I decided to change the layout configuration which I stored my locos for about one year. As I said before My other BLI engines work just fine just this one is a problem. But, I want to thank everone for responding so promptly. This has been driving me nuts for a week now.

What I meant by that is, what is powering your DB100? Is it a PS515 or equivalent, or are you running it from the output of an old power pack?

Since it's just that loco, I suspect it probably has a wiring problem.
