Broadway limited, mow high railer truck.

Hey Guys.

Has anyone else bought the Boadway limited HO high railer truck, part  #1916?

I just bought one and it is a total disappointment. It takes almost half power to move, very noisy, and skips and jerks as it moves. Even though the wheel flanges fit perfectly in the gauge and the track gauges right,  it wedges to a stop on some rail and turn out joints. Seems like the wheel flange may have a taper that narrows its track fit. My SW8 is happy with the track. also there is no give in the axle attachment, so a wheel could be lifting off a rail.

Anyone have these issues?   Sad

Thanks for any help.

One of the reasons I skipped these, I didn't expect they would run terribly well. Light weight and short wheelbase = VERY VERY picky about track conditions. Plus I had one of the Bachmann attempts from back in the 70's, granted those were pretty much bottom rung train set quality, but they had the same problems, poor pickup, noisy running, only ran at ludicrous speeds when it did run, and popped off the rails at every opportunity.

Thanks Randy

I was hoping that would not be the case.  I wonder what BL's warranty policy is ?  Sad

Oh well, whats $60 bucks worth anyway?

I did mention before if you watch the video on the web site, they never run it over a turn out.  But I also have one of their trackmobiles and it does pretty good on my layout after a good track cleaning. Not sure if they are using the same drive mechanism though. Also all my frogs are powered so it does not stall on them either.

It has a decoder, so you will get much better performance running it on DCC than on DC, and should turn off DC operation by reprogramming CV29.

But they do require extremely clean track and not trying to go through a turnout without a powered frog.  Even though it may be brand new, the wheels need cleaning before use.

Thanks, But what should CV 29 be set to?  I haven't read the CVs yet.

The value that needs to be programmed into CV29 depends on whether you have it on a long or short address.

For a short address (less than 128), set CV29 to a value of 2.

For a long address, set CV29 to a value of 34.
