Santa Fe Alco PA's
Posted by traingeek087 on Tuesday, November 18, 2003 5:57 PM
Can anyone tell me what year that the Santa Fe Alco PA's were retired from the Santa Fe? I believe they were sold to the D&H afterword. Can anyone also tell me if they were ever used in any type of freight service?

The 51-class Alcos, PAs and PBs, weren't just retired. Except for the four cab units sold to the D&H, they were all traded in to EMD and GE on the purchase of new units. The first to be traded in left the roster in 1966, the last in 1969.

The book "Iron Horses of the Santa Fe Trail" does include a photo of the 62 and another a unit on a freight train at Lubbock, Texas, in the late 1950s, but this doesn't seem to have been a common occurence.

So long,

Andy
