David, Thanks for that info.  Now that I see it MLW does ring a bell. Your railway management was not alone in being conservative.  At the same time the 40 Class Canadians were being put into service, the AD60 Garratts were also going into service.  The rail bosses were not really convinced these diesel things would work. [:P]
