The B&O main line to St. Louis also went thru Cincinnati. Also the L&N and, I believe, Southern served Cincy. The Cincinnati Railroad Club will be hosting tours of CUT (Cincy Union Terminal) during the 2005 NMRA Convention in July. If you go, I'm sure they can answer your questions in more detail.
