Chris: <br /> <br />Until about 1990, San Francisco had what was known as the State Belt Railroad, which ran primarily along the Embarcadero and served the piers, warehouses, and so forth, of the Port of San Francisco. <br /> <br />A couple web sites that might be helpful to you are the Golden Gate Railroad Museum at ggrm.org and the Virtual Museum of San Francisco at sfmuseum.org. <br /> <br />Also, try this Google search: "State Belt" +"San Francisco" This will direct you to a number of sites, many of which include a lot of really nice photographs. <br /> <br />I hope this is of some help.
