There should not be a seam if your cut is perpendicular to the sides.  Also note that the Athearn Genesis SD70Ace Cab is a removable part....no cuting should be required. Also an interesting tidbit.  The locomotive that you posted the photo of (BNSF 9159) is shown on page 2 of the owners manual for the Athearn Genesis SD70Ace.
