Steel Mill Buildings
Posted by NWP SWP on Monday, March 13, 2017 8:14 PM

Hi, I want to build a steel mill based layout with a mainline that runs the length of the layout and the buildings spur off a siding. What buildings would be most important to model?

Click on Resources, Steel mills 101

Also provided is a glossary of Steel Mill terms and a list of vendors that provide steel mill models and kits.

Kalmbach has done the work for you...

Here's the link to their blurb on it.

Likely a rotary dump.  There was a really cool model of one at the 2014 NMRA convention in the Model Contest room.  It was an operating model!  Not sure if the website is still up or if they posted photos of it.

Edit: website not up....

Can I make a suggestion?  Why don't you wait and read the book(s) you've purchased first then ask questions.  Chances are that you're going to find your answers there anyhow.  Otherwise, you've just wasted $40+ on superfluous material...

Search for HABS-HAER.

On that site search for "Steel mill".

Thousands of pictures and plans.
