PRR PS 4-4-2 sleeper Class PS442A (Walthers n.9344)
Posted by ETR_500 on Friday, November 9, 2012 11:25 AM

Hello...

I need the help of PRR modelers and experts about PRR passenger equipment to get some more clarification regarding the P-S 4-4-2 sleeper in object, specifically considering the likeness of its Walthers H0 scale reproduction (item n.9344); in fact, http://pennsyrr.com/ website  listed this Walthers H0 sleeper (in the website " Walthers PRR Passenger Car Models" page) as substantially CORRECT, with the following statement:

Pullman-Standard Streamlined 4-4-2 Sleeper (Late Scheme) - Class PS442A, P-S Plan 4069 - Imitation Gold lettering and striping as applied 1953-1968

Nevertheless, when I keep searching further informations, going to http://pennsyrr.com/ "1954 Condensed Passenger Roster with available HO scale models " page, I find that the Walthers H0 model (item 9344) is not mentioned among the existing reproductions of this car....

So, I wonder if Walthers H0 P-S 4-4-2 sleeper Class PS442A, Plan 4069 (item n.9344) is a CORRECT REPRODUCTION.

Many thanks for your helping.

Hello,

I believe that the 4-4-2 Imperial series used on the Broadway were not built by Pullman but by "ACF" American Car & Foundry to plan 9009 in lot number 2982 therefore you will not find any Pullman standard plans for this car.

I'm not a Pennsy expert but I  believe my information is accurate. Have you looket at any of the "TKM" Keystone Modeler issues that reviewed the Walthers cars? This is a very well done quarterly magazine by the PRRHTS.

Perhaps you will find more information there.

And... I might add

Another dozen cars WERE built by Pullman Standard to Plan 4069.

Here is a listing of the cars and their builders.

I hope this helps you in your research.
