Hello!
I'm searching for any information concerning the GG1's Tuscan Red paint schemes, particularly with regard to the period in which Tuscan Red 5 gold pinstripes and Tuscan Red thick yellow stripe were used.... I have looked several places, without finding anything. I know that Tuscan Red 5 gold pinstripes scheme was introduced in 1952, but when did it disappear? Moreover, when was the "Tuscan Red thick yellow stripe" scheme introduced and when was it discontinued?
Thanks in advance.
According to the "Keystone Crossings" website, units 4908 through 4916 were painted in Tuscan red in 1952, with 5 gold pinstripes.
Units 4856, 4857, 4876 and 4929 were painted in Tuscan in 1953, with 5 Dulux pinstripes. All PRR GG1's painted after 1955 had dulux lettering. Dulux was a brand of paint and Dulux gold was similar to the color of Gulden's Spicy Brown mustard.
Beginning in 1955 all GG1's were painted with a single 8 inch wide stripe. 4907 and 4916 were painted in tuscan with a single yellow stripe, in 1955; they were repainted into Brunswick at a later time.
The website does not give info on when the units were repainted.
Two other prototype threads have touched on this subject...

Conemaugh Road & Traction circa 1956
There are images of all the units except 4912 at Northeast.Railfan.net . There is a color image of 4911 taken on 7/24/63, after the unit was repainted green. There is a color image of 4907 on 6/6/65 in tuscan, and 4913 in tuscan on 6/12/66.
An hour's searching of the internet turned up the following additional images:
4856 Black & White photo dated 6/61 wearing a single stripe.
4910 B&W 5/64 single stripe.
Both units were painted tuscan with pinstripes; if they appeared in later photos with a single stripe they were probably repainted.
The following are color photos:
4907 Brunswick Green, single stripe, 4/68
4908 BG 1 stripe 4/68
4909 BG 1 stripe 8/69
4913 BG 1 stripe 8/69
4916 tuscan red 1 stripe 10/65
4929 BG 1 stripe 10/63
4876 BG 1 stripe 6/66
