The color of SeaLand container cars
Posted by Omaha53 on Monday, March 2, 2009 9:44 AM

I am building 2 sets of 5 HO Gunderson double stack cars. The instructions say that SeaLand cars are "red" but there are many shades of red. Does any one know what shade of red they were originally painted. I like to use Polly Scale paints.

I've used Model Masters Guards Red successfully.

The only problem with any color like red isthat itfades as soon as it is exposed to the air. Add the dirt that these will collect and you can't go too far wrong in using a lighter shade than was originally used on them. And since these were exposed to water settings you might consider some rust or discoloration because of salt spray.
