Brooklyn Navy Yard (AKA New York Naval Shipyard)
Posted by corsair7 on Thursday, May 15, 2008 7:13 PM

In my quest for information on adding part of shipyard to my future layout I've been looking for information on this particular installation. It was closed in 1966 and is now one of those places were industrial development is being encouraged. So a lot of what used to be there, isn't any longer. What I am interested in finding out is whether this particular installation was served by rail and if so, how, who and what services were provided. I'ld also like to see if I can find a track plan. So far, no joy other than to find a map of the placeshowing the different buildings, drydocks and other installations.

Can anyone help here?

Have fun

Just looked at the site and it has given a few ideas to explore.

One of them is operating a car float. I remember walking along the East River as a kid and see all of the car floats going by. That was in the mid 1950s and I am still fascinated by it.
