Wisconsin & Southern red?
Posted by Wikious on Thursday, April 3, 2008 8:01 PM
Does anyone happen to know what the specific name or shade of the red the Wisconsin and Southern uses? I kitbashed a loco for that railroad and I'm having trouble with the paint shade. Apologies if this is the wrong forum or if it's been asked before.

I was able to get a pair of paint chips, with codes.  The red is DuPont Imron, 1050XW42P.  Gray is 41KXW42P.  Now finding a model paint to come somewhere close is the fun part.  The chips are darker than the factory paint from Atlas and Athearn.  Those two don't match, either.  I would just like to find something that matches factory paint, to add details, etc.

Is there any chance you could scan or take a picture of them? It'd be really helpful to have something I could print off and take with me to the LHS.

I wouldn't worry too much about finding the correct match to the paint chip.  Find something that matches the decal set.  I recall somebody using Scarlet Red to paint some older WSOR engines, F45s IIRC.  That might give you someplace to start.

Here are my shots: WSOR engines  The 4011 is fresh out of paint, in decent light.  The rest show how it looks different in different light, paint age, etc.  Some engines get pretty close to pink.

Thanks for the photos- especially because I found 2 of #702 (which I'm kitbashing at the moment). I actually did find some paint that matches about as close as I think I can get it. As for the decals, they won't be a problem, as I'm going to have to print my own set anyways. Big Smile [:D]
