Trestle catwalk info needed
Posted by Ray Dunakin on Monday, February 18, 2008 11:55 PM
I'm modeling wooden trestles similar to those found in the Carrizo Gorge (though mine aren't nearly as large as the famous Goat Canyon trestle.) Anyway, I recall that the larger ones all have one or more narrow catwalks down among the bents, below track level, presumably for inspection and maintenance. I'd like to add this detail to some of my trestles but I don't have any photos that clearly show how these catwalks are constructed.

Does anyone have a photo or drawing that shows one of these types of catwalks on a wooden trestle? Again, I'm NOT referring to the catwalk that parallels the track.

Ray you might want to check this site out, they have cad drawings of all types of bridges, including some large wooden ones.

Hope this helps and yes the catwalk under bridges are for inspection to check alignment of the structure and for defects....John
