Coincidence, but as I looked through the first page of photos, the first one that I clicked on to enlarge was a shot of a railyard in the snow. Turns out that the photo was taken by Jack Delano. Three days ago that name wouldn't have meant anything to me. But just yesterday I read an article about him and his pioneering use of Kodachrome during the war years in the new special edition of Classic Trains, "Railroads and World War II".
By the way, don't get discouraged looking through the pictures (there are 1615 in all, in 27 pages) if it seems there aren't a lot of train shots. As you get towards the middle of the set there are some absolutely great rail shots, and a lot of railroad stuff in general.
Even the non-rail photos are interesting just to see how things were only some 65 years ago.
