Hi to all,
I am in the process of building sevral Branchline Trains CGW 50' plug door box cars. I model CGW and CBQ in the period 1960's to 1970's. My Question is regarding the placement of the Roofwalk on the CGW 50' plug door box cars, should this be installed for this time frame or not. I have been unable to find any prototype information and as I don't live in the USA I have not been able to get any local advice. Can anyone out there help.
Many thanks GMNUT
Running boards banned from new car construction in 1966, boxcars with running boards banned from interchange 1974.
Edit: The Branchline site lists the CGW car as having a blt date of 1955 and painted in the delivery scheme. It would have been delivered with running board and high ladders.
When they took over the M-StL in 1960, all the M-StL engines were repainted with in I guess a year or two. With the CGW, I know some old CGW lines still used engines in CGW paint into the mid-seventies. BN wasn't too bad, I think they had most every engine repainted within maybe 4-5 years. As you say, they slapped a new number on first in 1970, then repainted when they could.
Of course if you model former CGW and Burlington lines in the early seventies you could also run CNW, BN, GN and NP engines...and Amtrak of course !!
