Only locos equiped with Marklin compatable decoders will work with AC power. Some of the early decoders would not work with DC, but all of the new ones will.

Do you mean a regular DC layout or an AC layout (what you actually asked)?

A DCC equipped locomotive can run on DC but not AC (except maybe Marklin).

To a lot of you this is a stupid question, but i dont kno much of anything about dcc. I was looking at an atlas dcc equiped loco, and was wondering if it would be possible to run a loco with a decoder on a regular a/c powered layout?? would this damage the decoder at all?? as i said, to a lot of you this is a stupid question, but i would like to make sure before i spend over $100 on a loco i couldnt use!! Any help would be appreciated.
