I wire my lights in a parallel circuit. In this way, two wires can carry power to however many lights I want. At one time, I had 90 lights on my layout, all fed by 2 wires.

I built a small control panel just for the lights.  I sub-divided the lighting into groups, light street lights, signal (incandescent), signal (LED), yard towers, buildings, etc.  That way I can turn on and off individual groups.
