Great Mod RRs 2004: Kruse's Rochelle Sub.

Hoo boy, I just got my Great Model Railroads 2004. Great! How am I going to be able to concentrate on my homework.

Daryl Kruse's Rochelle Sub sure looks like a sweet alyout. Just what I think a model railroad oughta be (except that I'm an ATSF guy.) I was fascinating seeing how he worked the Rochelle scene into the layout. Wi***here had been a photo of that area of the layout. Maybe it's not far along yet. I know I have a lot of places on my railroad I'd like to show off but they're not quite ready, not quite ready. And my professor is wasting my valuable train time giving me homework and papers to write. Drat!

One question about the layout, as shown in GMR'04. Kruse says he has a BNSF switcher handling the local industries at Rochelle, which is a great way to get a little extra industry switching on the railroad without much interference to mainline through trains. But the train plan doesn't show a runaround on the BNSF trackage at Rochelle. How can the BNSF switcher get on the right end of cars interchanged next to the diamond in order to drop them at Amoco Oil or Total Logistics? Is there another crossover on the BNSF double track which exists on the layout but somehow didn't get drawn on the track plan? One way to handle a switching situation like this without a runaround would be "co-operative switching" with two locomotives, but this junction wouldn't seem to have the traffic to warrant that.

Daryl, do you have a second crossover on the BNSF double track at Rochelle that the GMR folks failed to draw on the trackplan?

Hoo boy, what a sweet layout with a terrific geometry, mixture of curves and tangent, soooooo "railroady".

I am wondering, how many years effort on this project thus far??
I am looking at this article and dream that one day my layout turns
out this well. I have been pulling hair on my scenery thus far. ESPECIALLY
