Like UP3985 said, it's not necessary (technically, it's not even necessary on DC either), but some recommend it so a short on one part doesn't shut down the whole layout. <br /> <br />One other piece of advice - if you do wire your entire layout as a single block, make sure that a short on any and every spot will trip the overload protection on your booster.
