Proto 87 spike question
Posted by Jastor on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 9:33 PM

Hi guys. Long time lurker first time poster. Walthers is plum out of the spikes I've been using up to now to handlay my track (code 70 spikes). I really like them as they're easy to spike and hold well.

Since they're fresh out and seem to be for the foreseeable future, I'm looking at alternatives. I don't like ME spikes, since they bend very easily in my basswood ties.

Has anyone used the Proto87 spikes for actual tracklaying? Are they cosmetic only? The elongated versions seem to be as long as ME's small spikes. While I love the code 70 spikes, they are a little large for my code 55 rail and these Proto87 ones seem like a good alternative.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Sean -

I'd suggest giving Andy Reichert a call or email - knowing his ingenuity (from his contributions to UK modeling forums) I *think* the Proto87 spikes will be perfectly functional - most of the stuff he engineers and sells through the P87 stores is!

Good luck!
