Digitrax DS44 Stationery Decoders and Tortoises

Anyone using these? Each decoder will control up to four turnouts. I have a few questions for those of you who use them:
1. How do you wire to turnouts that are several feet apart from each other?
2. Can they be programmed on the DT400 throttle once they are wired in the layout with the Tortoises wired up?
3. Can someone show me a wiring diagram for wiring the DS44 and the tortoise to control a Peco Code 83 Insulfrog turnout?
4. I am having trouble programming them, can someone provide a step by step instruction?
I know enough to be dangerous. [:D] I know the black and red lead from the decoder is powered from my DCC main bus. I know that the 8 wires from the decoder represent 2 leads to each of the 4 turnouts and that the white wire is for programming only.
If you having any links that can help here, I'd appreciate it!
Thanks!
