Benchwork update

Sorry no pics yet I'm at work, but I thought that I would let everyone know that my benchwork is now complete!!!!!!! And to top it all off the next week will be full of OT which means what you say.....TRACK!!! And lots of it. Can't wait to get them trains a runnin'. Its all happening so fast that now I'm going to have to consider which DCC system I want. Probably going to be digitrax but I'm still trying to figure out if thats what I want. I do know that 5 trains can run at once, with switching going on too, so I will need something powerful enough to run at least 30 engines I think...Any ideas feel free to voice those opinions.

What ever DCC system you decide to go with you'll probably want to make sure it goes to 8 amps. I dont know how much power is needed to run 30 trains at once. Joe Fugate could problably answer that question.

Thats a good point, I will probably have 5 different boosters. One for each mainline, So I would think that 8 amps per line would do.

Just how big is this layout? 5 trains with 6 units on each train? Have a track plan you can show us? I seperate booster for each main plus a yard area isn't a bad idea, but I would also break things down into more than one power district and not feed a full 8 amps to the track directly. Bad Things can happen when 8 amps gets shorted. Post a track plan and we can help you plan the power requirements.

I will post a track plan when I get home tonight, I was originally thinking 5 amps would be fine and just may stick to that. And also figured that I would have a booster for each mainline, and then of course break that into segments. I could use the help for sure though, so I will be posting that up later. [:D]

Almost forgot, the layout is 14x14 with three access holes to get into the middle sections, as far as 6 engines per train, I was just figuring the max that may run, now that could be more like 3 engines per train and then several switchers but I wanted to figure big so that if I wanted to run the max I would be able too.
