Transfer table
Posted by nkpltrr on Wednesday, October 19, 2005 8:21 PM
I am considering installing a transfer table on my layout. Wathers (or anybody else) does not sell one anymore. I have found a couple on eBay that are the Walthers cornerstone series. Are these tables any good? Since Walthers discontinued them I am wondering if they were not worthy. Any thoughts or feedback? Thanks

Dave,

Sometimes Walthers will "retire" kits. It has nothing to do with how good or bad the kits are. With their coke(?) plant, they've retired and "unretired" it several times. I would imagine someone will chime in about the quaility. Most of the Walthers kits are general very good. I've been happy with the structure kits I've purchased:

Freight depot
Wooden Water tower
Sanding tower/Drying house
Diesel Fueling platform
2-stall Engine house (although I kitbashed it by shortening it by 25%)
Interlocking tower

Time...It marches on...without ever turning around to see if anyone is even keeping in step.

I have one and after quite a bit of work it works fine. The motor is under the transfer bridge and tends to want to torque the bridge.

Back in the late 50's there was a two part article on building one in MR. IT didn't appear to difficult or costly but as usual takes time. That would allow you to customize the length in both directions.

Thanks for the input! I am not sure if the transfer table is the way to go but at least I have an option now. Thanks

hello all
I want to include one in my layout as well for a small shops complex.
Does anyone have any expirence building one. I've had a few different
ideas. One being the table is moved with a connecting rod from the
front of the facia. Two being the table rides on four rails, two
being dc power for movemnt, aligning the rails by eye, the other two
have dcc power to the bridge track. Possibly fiting the drive in a
"motor shed/operator shed" on the the side of the bridge.
althought i'm not sure on the drive mechcanism yet.
i think automatic idexing might be over my head electically, and expensive.
It might seem like challenging project but i think it would be
quite neat to see a loco glide back and forth between bays, marker
lights on and the engine rumbling.

any thoughts, suggestions or web sites
would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Justin,
Welcome to the MR Forums !
All but two of the articles cited in this keyword search at the Index of Magazines :

might be of some help to you.
