Bench Work

Any suggestions for light weight bench work for a layout 15 feet by 6 feet.
The origional L girder using solid timber is fine but I am looking for a proposal that is much lighter/
Any suggestions

Welcome to the forum.
Metal 2x4 was used in one of the posts, looked strong and poster said it was esy to work with.
Why the weight concern? You can use a 1x3 with a 1x2 that saves a LITTLE weight. 2x2 legs not 2x4, a little there.
Can use Alum. Angle iron, alum. screws but that is a LOT of work.

John, I don't think you're going to get much lighter on a freestanding bench than the L-girder design. As George stated, the 1 x 3 attached to a 1 x 2 at right angles is about as light and as sturdy a leg design as you'll get. Course, at 15 x 6' dimensions, you'll need more than one to make up your benchwork.

I used steel studs and I said it was easy to work with so that might have been me. The steel studs are light weight and if you use foam for your bench top it will be really light.

Thanks Cheese3 I forgot who, OLD AGE! Your design got my thinking, using the metal in the restoration shop for benchwork.
