Woodland Scenics Road Kit - What a mess!

I had my first attempt at using the Woodland Scenics materials to build a road and I was very disappointed. Usually I'm quite satisfied with their stuff but this had very limited directions and I had plaster all over the place. The tape that they supplied stuck hard to my plywood and I couldn't remove it without a lot of work with an Xacto knife. I have more roads to layout but it certainly won't be with this product.

I had absolutely the opposite experience with this product. With care, it when down smoothly and cleanly, set up perfectly and, when sanded and painted, resulted in a perfect looking old fashion concrete road. The border tape came up easily from my plywood (it's not supposed to be left in place overnight or longer) and I certainly would have not hesitation whatever about using it again.

Perhaps I got old stock or something. The backing wouldn't even come off the foam cleanly. I had to keep picking off little pieces. The tape was down maybe an hour tops and half the sticky backing had to be scraped off. This was my first time working with plaster and some hints as to consistency might have been helpful. I'm going to search the forums for articles on other ways to model highways.

tcf, Check the July issue of Model Railroader. A gentleman named Pelle Soeborg explains it step by step. So easy, even I could do it..
