Metal Handrails
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, April 1, 2005 8:55 PM
I have recently aquired a SW/1000 or 1500 (the part list had both numbers) Diesel Switcher off of Ebay. It is in great condition and runs wonderful aswell.

However it is not detailed all the addtional detail parts on in a envelope. It comes with metal handrails. I have never detailed a loco. All mine have been RTR so what is a good glue/cement to adhere the metal handrails to the plastic body? Will my testors Non-Toxic Cement For Plastic Models be suffecient? I guessed not hence the "For Plastic Models" part. What is a good glue to use?

It sounds like an Athearn, they'll probally stay put when you pu***hem in, but super glue from the inside or walthers goo will make them stick.

After many years I have perfected a technique of putting the stanchions on the handrail, placing the bent end in the hole and heating the stanchion with a soldering iron from the handrail end. Melts then right in nicely. Just don't pu***hem half way through the side sill. You can also squeeze the with a pair of needlenose pliars. I put a drop of superglue at the handrail hole so they don't twist sideways also.
