 Hi Reg, I have 8 DS51K1 decoders and 6 more ready to be installed. They are great and reliable. You should not have to take off the bottom plate of the switch as there are red and black wires from the 'motor'. I use a tag strip to connect the fine decoder wires to the heavier ones from the switch motor and track. Programming is easy, although I had some difficulty in realising how simple it was ,first time and a loose wire with an alligator/crocodile clip solved the problem of connecting the yellow programming wire.
