Yet another one for my Forum friends. Short of having them custom made, does anyone have a good commercial source for Milwaukee steam engine decals? I am specifically looking for decals for the 2-8-0s (Consolidations) in the 1200-1300 series, 2-8-2s (Mikados) in the 600-700 series, and the 4-6-2s (Pacifics) in the 800 series. These are the post-1938 number series. I have some steam engines that I was given from an uncle's collection. They don't fit the era I'm modeling and I want to donate them to my local museum for use on a display of the Milwaukee Miles City yard. (Full discloser: I am involved in working on the display as well.) They are not lettered for the Mllwaukee so I need decals. I have already tried the various Milwaukee Road FB pages with no luck on decals but I have gotten assistance with the numbers and picture links from those pages.
As usual, any assistance that can be provided would be most welcomed.
You may not be able to find a single set, but could most likely do what you want to do by combining sets.
After about 1930, Milwaukee steam engines had their herald on the tender, and the engine number on the cab. I believe originally the herald would just be white lettering, later it would include the red background. You could combine heralds from say a freight car decal set with a number set with large and small RR Roman numbers.

Before that, the engine number was painted in large numbers on the tender, and the railroad initials were on the side of the cab. Again, you could most likely combine sets to create this.

The idea of getting a generic sheet for the lettering is not a bad idea. As I am not a Milwaukee modeler, any idea what size the lettering was on the cabs for the post 1938 lettering and what classes were the engines I mentioned?

As for the numbers, several companies make Railroad Roman number sets that has several sizes of numbers on each set. I'd just look them over compared to pictures and see what size fits best. Could be a bit of trial-and-error.
