Sculptamold - Does it need to cure before bonding foam roadbed with acrylic caulk?
Posted by davefr on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 8:33 AM

I've used Sculptamold to fine tune a roadbed base going up a grade.  The road will be cut from 2mm black foam.  My plan is to attach the foam road to the road bed with a thin layer of clear acrylic caulk.  (I want a firm semi-permanent bond but also something that could be removed if ever needed.)

1. Does sculptamold need to be 100% fully cured before bonding a roadbed with acrylic (water based) caulk?

2. Is acrylic caulk the best choice for a semi permanent bond? (DAP Alex Plus clear).

TIA

I would say yes to both.

Having used some sculptamold I would say you want it fully cured.

I used inexpensive laytex caulk for foam to wood, cork to foam, foam to foam, plaster to foam and track to foam.  I was pleased with all the results.

Good luck,

Richard
