HO bachmann replacement trucks/wheels?
Posted by ChrisVA on Thursday, April 8, 2021 1:39 PM

Does any supplier sell replacement trucks for Bachmann rolling stock? I have a HO 52' flatcar with some trucks/wheels that are a bit warped and dont roll freely. Coupler not attached. I'd like to replace the truck part, and both axles/wheels. I'd rather not get replacements from Bachmann, look like lower quality.

Thanks!

Not that I could find. Bachmann uses a unique oversized mounting boss on the bolster that sits in a recess in the top of the truck, unlike all the other styles of truck. They also use a unique large head Phillips mounting screw That is not quite 2-56, a bit smaller. That's good because you can re tap the boss for 2-56.

I retrofit a number of different brands of trucks to Bachmann cars by slicing off that boss fkush with the bolster, which is a more normal arrangement. I then tapped new threads into the remainder to accept the more normal  2-56 screw. I like Kadee nylon truck mounting screws in part because you can easily cut them to the desired length and the plastic tends to grip the plastic boss better than metal does.

I cut the boss flush with an Exacto type mini saw blade which cuts more easily than using a knife blade.
