I keep repeating myself when it comes to building a lightweight, but strong benchwork for a small layout. Here is what I would do for a 4 by 4 movable layout: <ul> <li>Buy a 4 by 8 sheet of 2" insulation foam (XPS - that´s Extruded Poly Styrol, aka Styrofoam) and cut it in two 4 by 4 sections</li> <li>Buy a 4 by 8 sheet of 1/8" Masonite and cut it in two 4 by 4 sections.</li> <li>Glue the two Styrofoam sheets onto a sheet of Masonite</li> <li>Lay the leftover sheet of Masonite on top of the Styrofoam, mark out where your track goes, cut that out and glue it to the top.</li> <li>All glueing can be done with regular white glue</li> <li>The sides need to be covered with a fascia of 1/8" Masonite - for protection.</li> <li>Get two sawhorses to rest the benchwork on</li> </ul> This benchwork is lightweight, cheap and quick to build. I am regretting this - I should have followed my own advice!
