I had considered using kitty litter, but it looks like it might be too big. I went to a local track and looked at the real ballast used here, and the pieces are about 3" in diameter, which, I think?, would equal about 1/20th of an inch. the litter I have is closer to, or almost, 1/8th ". Am I correct? <br />Tim
