kato unitrack

Does anyone know of a way to weather kato unitrack. Im modeling in the steam era so should I put some droped coal in places. Thanks!

I have my doubts that this will work well. Plastic does not stain well with diluted inks. Better to spray paint the entire track with a dark brown color, wipe of the rail tops, add ballast to the track and then stain those parts you want to resemble coal and ash dropped on the track.

I did that with Kato N scale Unitrack and, though a tedious job, it worked quite well.

Excellent job on ballasting that Unitrack. I've always imagined it would be a tedious task to properly ballast between the ties, but obviously it can be done with a sufficient amount of patience.

Thanks for the kudos! Actually, the ballasting job wasn´t that bad, you just have to take your time. Wearing a mask also helps to avoid the ballast being blown into all four directions before it is glued down.

In any case, the improved look is well worth the effort!
