Peco turnout repair
Posted by southernalco on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 11:31 AM

I have a Peco 3 way that has lost it's tension. How can I repair it?

There are small springs that hold the points against the stock rails.  One of yours has probably fallen off.  What gauge track?  Maybe someone can post an applicable picture.

It is HO and the springs are still there. They have lost most of their tension.

The "spring" ist just a piece of steel wire, bent into a "V" shape. It may be still in place, but probably has come out of the slots holding it in the right position. You can carefully open the box where the spring is and put it back into the proper place. It´s a lot of fiddly work - guess how I know this!

Sir Madog can you give me a little more info on removing the box (I take it is the small protrusion on top of the turnout) ?

I had On30 switches, which differ a little from the HO switches. IIRC, there are two little metal tabs you have to carefully bend open to get access to the spring.
