I used the mirror technique on my waterfall. That guy is a genuis. Now everyone that has done this, let's see!

I don't quite understand what point you are trying to make? Is the waterfall a piece of mirror, is the background a mirror? Who is the genius you are referring to?
The mirror effect is a mirror reflecting the stream right before the fall that gives the effect of the river coming through the backdrop. And the man credited for this effect was the late great John Allen, builder of the Gorre and Daphetid RR
Looks good Joe. There a few people here that have used mirrors with great success. I am sure they will be along to show off their stuff.

Thanks Brent!
I used a mirror to hide the white wall underneath the backdrop, and to extend the river off the backdrop.

Very Nice Mike! The depth of the river near the backdrop is excellent!
Come on you guys, I know there's more mirror effects out there! Let's see

This is the only one I got right now:
Although I am planning to install a couple of mirrors to extend a couple of roadways into the backdrop, I have yet to install them.
For one roadway externsion, I built half of a Walthers Cornerstone Arched Road Bridge kit and recessed it into the backdrop. The top of the bridge blends into the backdrop while the planned mirror(s) will be installed behind the half-depth bridge to extend the lower roadway straight on beyond the backdrop. Because layout viewers will be able to look straight down this roadway, I don't know whether I will install a single mirror or two mirrors set at 90 degrees.
Another roadway and parallel railroad track will terminate under a pedestrian bridge that will be scratch built and set against the backdrop. As with the previous scene, I plan to install a mirror behind the pedestrian bridge to extend the roadway and rail line beyond the bridge. Layout viewers will not be able to view this mirror from anything less than about a 35 degree angle so a single mirror should work fine in this location.

That's well done! I studied the picture for a while but until you made your second post I couldn't figure out where the mirror was.

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
The waterfall mirror is at the top of the waterfall, set back a bit I gather. Is it angled so that a viewer cannot see themselves if they look straight at the waterfall (which seems to be the case in the image, taken head-on it seems).

At my club there is only one mirror in use at the end of this tunnel.

Wow!
The December issue and the video of Gerry Leone's Bono Vista layout, should inspire some new posts to this thread. It was neat to see his illusions with the mirrors. Is anyone going to try it? Let's see
I plan on doing that to one of my tunnels against a wall to simulate continuity.

chutton01 Actually when I got the issue and saw that article, I wondered if the OP dominic c had some advance knowledge that it would be published then, and started this thread because of it.It's a conspiracy, I'ze tell ya!
